Rag & Bone - 4 x 500 Pieces
Rag & Bone - 4 x 500 Pieces
The call of the Rag & Bone man around the towns and cities was a familiar sound in the 1950s but by the time popular BBC series Steptoe & Son was screened in 1965, there were far fewer operating.
A typical days take would have included rags, furs, shoes, car parts, furniture and in fact almost anything that was being thrown out. If the children were lucky, some Rag & Bone men would traditionally offer a gold fish or two in a water-filled plastic bag.
This beautiful set of 4 x 500 piece puzzles has been lovingly painted by Trevor Mitchell. This particular painting was inspired by his visit to Grassington in Darrowby in October 2019.
After leaving Bradford Art College in 1979 with a Diploma in Art and Design, Trevor Mitchell began his career as an art director at a London advertising agency. He returned to his native West Yorkshire a few years later and worked for several design studios and advertising agencies before going freelance in 1986. Commercial illustration work rekindled his love of painting and he was encouraged by finding a market for his work among the publishers of greeting cards and jigsaw puzzles. Art prints of his paintings are now sold worldwide. Trevor's paintings reflect his enthusiasm for steam and vintage vehicles and his fascination with recreating the past in pictures appears frequently in Gibsons nostalgic puzzle range.
As with all Gibsons jigsaws, they use 100% recycled puzzle board, FSC paper and commission the best artists from all around the world. The beautifully illustrated pieces are designed to fit perfectly together, in fact, they use the thickest puzzle board on the market.
Gibson's have made some positive changes to their processes, so you can be sure you’re getting the same great puzzles and know they are kinder to the environment. Not only does the box have a fresh new look, but they have used recyclable clear labels to secure the lid instead of shrink wrap, reducing plastic waste. They use vegetable-based inks too. The gloss coating on the box gives extra protection and the puzzle pieces are stored in a plastic bag that can be recycled by most councils.
Because the box is slightly smaller than previous designs, less room is needed to transport the puzzles, which reduces the carbon footprint and means you can store your puzzles more easily. There is also an artwork poster inside for you to reference whilst you piece together your lovely jigsaw puzzle.
